Washington
is the USA’s capital, it’s located in the east of the country and it is a
federal District. In this city you can find the most important
monuments about the history of the United States. We are going to talk about
the White House, the National Mall, the Lincoln Monument, Library of Congress
and the United States Capitol.

The White
House is the residence of the USA’s president, he and his family live there
during his legislature. The house was an idea of George Washington the only
president that didn’t live there and it was built in 1790. The first president
to live in the White House was John Adams for only 4 months.
With more
than 100 living rooms John Adams thought that the house was too big. If you can
do a visit inside of the White House you can found very interesting places
where the president do his work and also the personal life. For example the
blue room as the name suggests, the preferential color in the room is blue. In
this part you can find a lot of ancient furniture. Also the red room with red
walls and today is used like a living room. The most important place in the
white house is the Oval Office, in this room the president
meets with other politicians.
Around the
White House there is a very big garden, in this garden they do a lot of
activities like the easter egg roll. The actual president and his family do
games and in this they involve a lot of families. The president can also play
golf or take a walk with other politicians.
It’s
possible to visit the White House. The visit is free and homing, but it
requires some advance planning. Do you need to have an authorization by your
congressional representative with an advance of 21 days up to 6 months.
The
capitol, the most emblematic place of North American democracy, was
started to be built in 1793 and finished in 1868. Reforms and expansion
continued during the twentieth century but in the 2008 it was completed the
last.
The
building was designed by William Thornton and has a large dome in the center and
two amazing buildings on the two sides. In the center of the capitol we can
find "The Apotheosis of Washington " a very beautiful paint on the
ceiling.
On Capitol
Congress they meet to write the laws of the nation. It is where the congress
discuss about the worrries and requeriments of the citizens, we can not forget
that in the capitol is were powerful people resides and presidents take offices
and pronounce speeches.
If you
want to visit the capitol you just have to book your experience in a
travel agency and you get out with a very big smile. The USA Capitol visitor
center is the newest complex where thousands of people can visit the
installations and increase their knowledge about American history.
To sum it
up, you will have the opportunity to take a tour around a symbol of the
American people and their government, the U.S. Capitol is the meeting House of
Representations.
The
National Mall is a centric park and gardens zone in Washington. This park is
situated in front of the White House. Is an emblematic and centric zone in the
USA’s capital because is plenty of commemorative monuments and impressive
structures. It has many paths for cyclists and many ways to walk.
In this
National Esplanade the people of USA celebrate his commitment with democracy
and the USA’s president takes possession. Sometimes American people received in
this esplanade presidents of other countries and others authorities. An
environment of democracy is breathed.
In 1965 it
was designed by the architect Pierre Charles l’Efant but in 1791 this architect
designed all of the historic center of Washington.
Sometimes
the Word `National Mall´ is used to refer to the center of the city and in the
center of Washington we can visit most
historic monuments included the Lincoln monument.
One site that you can’t lose if you go to Washington D.C is the Lincoln Memorial. A monument built in 1922 for the memory of the 16th president of U.S.A , Abraham Lincoln. The monument is in the National mall , above the stairs you can see the reflecting pool , George Washington´s monument and the capitol .
When you enter in the building , you can see a statue of Lincoln , the statue is done in marble, it measures 6 meters , behind the statue there is an inscription: “In this temple as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the union the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever”
In 1867 the congress of the U.S.A ordered a construction for Abraham Lincoln . And the first Stone was put in Lincoln’s birthday . Henry Bacon built the building and Daniel Chester French , the estatue.
The United
States Library of Congress, is one of the biggest libraries in the world. It
contains 158 millions of documents, of which there 68 million of manuscripts,
37 million of books in 470 languages and the biggest collection of rare books.
It was built
in 1800. In the war of 1814, it was destroyed by British troops, in a fire. The
USA’s president, Thomas Jefferson, donated 6500 books of his personal
collection.
In 1851,
another fire destroyed 35000 books. In 1897, the library moved to the Thomas Jefferson
Building. The librarian John Russell Young established the Library’s first
assistance programs for the blind and
physically disabled in 1897.
Congress
acquired nearby land in 1928 and approved construction of the Annex Building in
1930. Although delayed during the Depression years, it was completed in 1938
and opened to the public in 1939.
